Matthew traces his roots to a family of makers, craftspeople, and DIY-ers across rural North Carolina. The art of making, particularly a lifelong love of drawing, was formative in developing skills as a quiet but thoughtful observer of the world around him. This sensitivity and inquisitive nature push Matthew to engage deeply in a design methodology fueled by rigorous research, documentation, and discovery to craft thoughtful spaces that respond to the uniquities of complex contextual environments.
Matthew, a native of Lewisville, North Carolina, graduated with Honors from the North Carolina State University School of Architecture. He was a multi-time nominee for the AIA Triangle Scholarship and a prize winner in the Shawcroft Prize for Drawing.
